Ka-ching! Social media that brings home the bacon

So which social media platforms are actually bringing in sales for businesses?  Well, if you look at retailers, there have been some interesting findings to report.  Winning social media strategies include

  • Video on the website.
  • Making ratings and reviews available on your website.
  • Offering online chat. In the study, retailers who offered chat had 87% more unique visitors than retailers who did not.
  • Embedding a Facebook “Like” button on your website.  Retailers who embedded the “Like” button enjoyed an 80% website traffic growth over a period of three months, and a 50% increase in sales generated through Facebook!

Also found to be tremendously successful were email campaigns with a high frequency rate (as much as three to five times a week!) and strong calls to action.

The study found that geo-location services such as FourSquare were not quite as good at generating retail sales, with somewhat limp returns.
