Taking a break from providing marketing and public relations tips today to honor the men and women who responded to emergencies associated with 9/11.  Here are some ways to commemorate the 10th anniversary of that sad event around the DC area today.

Official Pentagon Memorial 10 Year Commemoration

September 11, 2011 / Pentagon Memorial / 9:30AM

The Pentagon will have an invite-only ceremony for families of 9/11 victims. The Pentagon Memorial will re-open to the general public following the ceremony.

9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance

September 11, 2011 / Freedom Plaza / 1331 Pennsylvania Avenue NW / Washington, DC / 1PM – 4PM

On Sunday, September 11, HandsOn Greater DC Cares and Serve DC – the Mayor’s Office of Volunteerism will commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11 by hosting Tribute to Service – Honoring the Victims, Survivors, and Heroes of 9/11 at Freedom Plaza in downtown Washington, DC. The tribute serves as a time for community members to rekindle the spirit of service that emerged following the attacks of 9/11. Attendees will have the opportunity to paint a 9/11 Remembrance Mural, assemble educational kits for students, write honor cards to military families, participate in our volunteer fair featuring 30 nonprofits from Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia, and participate in our tribute program featuring regional and national speakers, local choirs, poetry, and a dance troupe.

Washington National Cathedral

September 11, 2011 / 3101 Wisconsin Ave. NW / Washington, DC / Multiple Times

Washington National Cathedral Dean Samuel T. Lloyd III has announced the Cathedral’s plans to commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11. In partnership with the Pentagon Memorial Fund, “A Call to Compassion” will begin on Friday evening, September 9 and conclude on Sunday evening, September 11.

8:00 PM – For a Healing World – Live webcast. A concert of healing concludes the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Performances will feature popular artists and classical musicians. Learn more »
